About Hyperbaric Oxygen

Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers are a device that provides the body oxygen therapy in a pressurized environment. Using oxygen under pressure allows the blood and plasma oxygen levels to increase – which helps stimulate the healing response by providing more oxygen to our cells. When cells receive more oxygen, they can create more energy, regenerate, and strengthen – which is why we see many health conditions improve with hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

How Does HBOT Work?

Our hyperbaric chamber utilizes 1.3 ATA, which is different than the hyperbaric chambers you will see utilized in hospitals. Hospitals use higher pressure chambers to treat critical conditions like air/gas embolisms, bone infections, severe burns, CO poisoning, and other severe/acute health concerns. Our chamber is best utilized for many of the ‘off label’ hyperbaric uses – in fact, studies show 1.3 ATA is the preferred pressure for concerns like neurocognitive issues. Mild hyperbaric chambers are very safe, effective, and reduce many of the risks of higher pressure chambers.

Yes, there are a few. Absolute contraindications include: untreated pneumothorax and certain mediaction use (Bleomycin, Disulfiram Cisplatin, Mafenide, or Doxorubicin). There are several other relative contraindications, but each can be assessed on an individual basis.

To begin the session, you will be asked to step inside the chamber and sit/lie down. The attendant will then close the chamber. The chamber will begin to inflate and fill with air. Once the chamber is fully inflated, the pressurization will begin. During pressurization, you will feel pressure inside your ears and you will want to yawn, swallow, or clear your ears. Once the chamber is fully pressurized, your session will last 60 minutes, unless you need to stop the session sooner. At the end of the session, the chamber will need to depressurize. At this time, the attendant will begin to slowly deflate the chamber. Once fully depressurized, the attendant will unzip the chamber and you will be allowed to exit.

Yes. We will fully prepare you for what to expect before you enter the chamber. If you have questions or concerns while in the chamber, you will be able to communicate with staff via walkie-talkie.
